The automated smoke meter GSM series is easily able to measure the filter blackening level in engine exhaust smoke. Some of the models are also line-upped to correspond to low smoke emission level by increasing the sample gas volume with variable sampling system and they automatically take sample gas and feed a filter paper to measure filter blackening level. The external control options are equipped to correspond to existing engine control system.

Automated measuring sequence
An efficient measurement is automatically done without personal errors by just pressing a button in order for sampling exhaust gas, measuring a result in reflectance and purging sample lines with air. It also contribute to the labor-saving to replace a filter paper which is able to measure continuously 660 times per filter paper roll.
Excellent repeatability and high sensitivity
The model GSM series(except GSM-3TDA) employ the temperature compensated detector with low drift to enhance the repeatability in low smoke conditions (equiv:low soot density). The GSM-22 series employ the variable sampling system to increase the sample gas volume and the sensitivity in extremely low smoke conditions.
Correspond to external control
It is able to incorporate into existing automated laboratory equipment since the model GSM series (except GSM-3TDA) correspond to external control such as RS-232C or Ethernet.
For vehicle inspection or quality control in car production line, it is easy to measure filter blackening level by inserting a probe into tailpipe.
Engine research and development
For engine research or development of diesel or turbo-charged GDI engines, the filter blackening level in various conditions are obtained by installing a probe into any exhaust positions.
Model selection guide
Can the model GSM series measure the filter blackening level with containing a lot of moisture in exhaust gas?
It is recommended to use the heated model GSM-22A in those case to avoid to contaminate in sample lines or to break filter paper. The model GSM-22 is not a heated type.
1. Sample the known amount of exhaust gas through filter paper to contaminate the filter by soot.
